How did the incident happen?

At approximately 8 a.m. on Saturday, following a duck hunting excursion on Lake Guntersville near Goose Pond Colony, an incident occurred. During the outing, a kayak capsized, leading to the individual, Hardie, submerging beneath the water and not resurfacing.

Various agencies collaborated in the recovery efforts, including Troopers from ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division, the Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources Wildlife & Freshwater Fisheries Division, the Scottsboro/Jackson County Rescue Squad, Rosalee Rescue Squad, Guntersville Fire Department, Crane Hill Fire and Rescue, and the Logan Fire and Rescue.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The school made the following statement:

“Snead State Community College faculty and staff are deeply saddened to hear about the tragic incident that took place Saturday morning in Scottsboro involving former student-athlete Brooks Hardie.
