Brian Winterflood London Death, Life president of Winterflood Securities has died

Brian Winterflood Death – Brian Winterflood, one of the best-known names in the City of London, is to retire from his post as life president of Winterflood Securities, the stockbroker he founded almost 30 years ago has passed away. Brian Winterflood was announced dead on Thursday, the 29th of June 2023. He was a man with a strong will and quick wit, but many would argue that Brian’s big heart was the most memorable part. Thoughts and prayers are with his friends, family and community during this difficult time.
“Very sad to learn of the passing of Brian Winterflood. A true City gent and one of the Square Mile’s great entrepreneurs,” business columnist Ian King said. “And, touchingly, a man who, when asked to state his occupation on forms, always entered ‘jobber’.” There was no cause of death reported for Brian Winterflood at the time of this publication.
After celebrating his 80th birthday in January 2017, Winterflood decided to retire from his honorary position. With a remarkable finance career spanning over six decades, his journey began in the early 1950s when he started as a messenger at stockbrokers Greener Dreyfus. During the 1974 market crash, Winterflood found a way to mitigate the impact by supplementing his income by running an antique stall on London’s New Kings Road while working at the jobbing firm Bisgood Bishop.
Over time, Winterflood rose through the ranks and eventually became the chief executive of Bisgood Bishop. In 1986, he played a pivotal role in overseeing the firm’s sale to County NatWest. Interestingly, Winterflood revealed in a 2009 feature for Veterans of Finance in Financial News that his tenure with NatWest marked a low point in his career. Notably, 1986 was also the year of the Big Bang, a momentous event that brought about significant structural changes to the UK’s financial markets through deregulation.
This transformation opened the doors to international firms and ushered in a new era of competition in the City. After leaving he set up Winterflood Securities in 1988 and remained with the group following its 1993 purchase by Close Brothers. He swapped the CEO role for a non-executive position at the firm on his birthday in 2002.
The family will release an obituary and funeral arrangements for Brian Winterflood.
