Barbara Wooten, Udonis Haslem stepmother and foundation co-founder has died

Barbara Haslem Death – Co-founder and chairwoman emeritus of Udonis Haslem Foundation Barbara Wooten Haslem has sadly passed away. She was the stepmother of the former professional basketball player and 2x State Champion Udonis Haslem. She was announced dead by the foundation through a publication on social media that read “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our incredible co-founder and chairwoman emeritus, Ms. Barbara Wooten.”

Who was Barbara Haslem?

Barbara Wooten is Udonis Haslem’s stepmother who following a tragic loss of a friend, stepped in to immediately provide school supplies and uniforms for the children. Unbeknownst to them at this time, this was the beginning of what became the Udonis Haslem Childrens Foundation, now known as the Udonis Haslem Foundation.

Barbara has since remained the founder and an active member of all Foundation causes and iniatives. A teenage Udonis looked up to Wooten back in the day when she was moving up the corporate ladder. Udonis Haslem moved to Jacksonville with Wooten once she was hired there. It was during his early adolescent years that he fell in love with the sport. With his abilities, he made a reputation for himself there quite fast.

About Udonis Haslem

For seven years, they resided in Jacksonville, where Wooten worked for the Fortune 500 corporation “American Express.” Haslem relocated with her when her career required her to return to Miami, nevertheless. He enrolled in Miami Senior High School, which helped him develop his talents even further.

He began to take basketball seriously and set goals to become a starter center at the University of Florida and eventually play in the NBA. As his career developed, the oldest player to participate in the NBA Finals never lost sight of his Liberty City roots. In fact, he and Wooten gave school supplies to the kids left behind after a family friend passed suddenly in 2003, during his first season with the Heat.

His organization, UD Kids, was founded as a result of this occurrence and changed its name to the Udonis Haslem organization in 2022. Barbara Wooten continued to participate actively in all of the organization’s projects. Barbara was strong, fearless, witty, and kind. Her legacy will not be forgotten and will live on through the Udonis Haslem Foundation.

Barbara Haslem’s obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by the family at a later date.
