Ashley Sheppard Death – The family and friends of a beloved member of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in NY are mourning the tragic death of Ashley Sheppard who passed away following a short battle with cancer of the stomach. 35-year-old Ashley Sheppard died from fgastric cancer on Sunday, October 29, 2023, according to her family members.
Ashley Sheppard was a cherished member of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. She was a dedicated wife and a cheerful mother. Ashley loved her family especially her husband who was a known peaceful community member and Town of Geddes Police Officer, Michael Andrew Sheppard. Following the tragic incident, a GoFundMe Account has been created by the family to help raise funds for her funeral.
“Our very dear friend, co-worker, family and brother in blue- Town of Geddes Police Officer, Michael Andrew Sheppard, suffered the loss of his loving wife, Ashley Frances Sheppard. On October 29th, 2023, at the young age of 35, Ashley passed away from gastric cancer. She was not only Michael’s loving wife, but was his best friend and the loving mother of their two-year-old son, Jackson John Sheppard, who is also suffering the loss of his Mommy. Ashley was also a Department Manager at the Rosemond Gifford Zoo.”
Michael, just beginning his career in law enforcement coupled with the loss of half the family’s income will certainly place an economic burden on him. While Michael and two year old Jackson prepare to move forward without Ashley, we thought it was only appropriate to set up a GoFundME page to assist Michael and little Jackson during this extremely emotional and difficult time.

County Executive Ryan McMahon expressed his condolences, saying “We mourn the loss of a highly regarded member of the zoo community. Ashley’s dedication as a Collection Manager of Asian elephants was inspiring, and her absence will be felt by her colleagues and throughout the community.”
