Amber Thomas Death – A 40-year-old Adrian, Michigan woman shot in Saline on Thursday has died. The victim has been identified as Amber Thomas. According to reports, Amber Thomas of Lenawee County passed away from injuries sustained in the incident. The shooting happened at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, near the Linden Square Assisted Living Center, 650 Woodland Drive East, in Saline. She was shot by her ex-boyfriend was the shooter.
While Thomas and a male companion were walking towards her car in the parking lot of the UAW Local 892 adjacent to the assisted living center, a tragic incident occurred. The woman’s ex-boyfriend, whose identity has not been disclosed, opened fire on them. Thomas sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her wounds later on.
The male companion was initially reported as a 55-year-old, but he is actually a 67-year-old from the Saline area. He was initially in stable condition but may have undergone changes since the incident. The authorities are treating this case as a homicide and conducting a thorough investigation. It marks the 15th homicide in Washtenaw County this year, but the first one in Saline.
Following the shooting, the ex-boyfriend fled the scene in a vehicle and was involved in a head-on collision near South Ann Arbor Street and Willis Road. During this crash, a 38-year-old woman from Jackson County sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The police have confirmed that the woman had a Personal Protection Order (PPO) against the suspect. The suspect is currently in police custody, and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. The Linden Square Assisted Living Center, where the incident took place adjacent to, is cooperating with law enforcement during the investigation.
Due to the severity of the situation, there was a brief lockdown of a nearby school as a precautionary measure. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Saline police, Ann Arbor police, Pittsfield Township police, University of Michigan Department of Public Safety, Saline Area Fire Department, Huron Valley Ambulance, ATF, Michigan State Police, FBI, and Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, provided assistance and support during the incident.
The family will release an obituary and funeral arrangements for Amber Thomas.
