Alfred Alfie Murray Darby Death: Family Mourn Five-Year-Old Boy Fatally Hit By Car
NEW SOUTH WHALES — The family of a five-year-old boy who died when he was struck by a car in Sydney’s Northern Beaches have spoken to 7NEWS.com.au about their “little angel”. Alfred ‘Alfie’ Murray Darby, 5, was watching his older brother play rugby in Collaroy when he wandered off on Sunday about 1.30pm. He was the youngest of five children and leaves behind his parents, three brothers and a sister. His family had travelled about an hour from their home in Dural to Collaroy for the rugby match. Bystanders performed CPR on Alfie, with one witness grabbing a defibrillator from his car as paramedics arrived at the scene.
He was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital “He adored little children as well as all his older siblings. “He was sensitive and gentle with little babies, and fearless when rumbling with his older brothers or on the rugby field. “With his adoring sister, Alfie loved to dance. ”critical injuries and died hours later. “We lost our darling, much loved Alfred Murray Darby ‘Alfie’,” the family told 7NEWS.com.au. “Alfie was a cheeky five-year old, but also could be the perfect angel. “We are overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and we thank the people of Collaroy, the Northern Beaches, all medical staff and members of the public for the compassion they have shown. “We miss Alfie terribly and he will be forever in our hearts and memories.” “The Darby family are well-known members of our school and greater community who are gracious, kind and always welcoming,” a family friend wrote in the fundraiser’s description.
The family does not blame anyone for what they call a “tragic accident”. “We hope the driver of the vehicle can find peace knowing that Alfie dearly loved Jesus and that we have faith our little boy is now in a better place in His arms,” they said. “We believe our Christian faith in a loving and ever-faithful God will help us to endure this tragedy. “We are also deeply grateful for the overwhelming love and support carrying us from our extended family, friends, our church, our school community, sporting community, local community and the wider Australian Community.
