According to report, a small Piper PA32 aircraft crashed in the scenic Alberta mountains, resulting in the loss of six lives. The flight was carrying five passengers and the pilot when the accident occurred in Kananaskis Country, a mountainous region situated approximately 100 kilometers west of Calgary on a Friday night. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the plane was en route to Salmon Arm, British Columbia, for a church function, but the exact cause of the crash remains unknown.
After the incident was reported, RCMP secured the crash site while the Transportation Safety Board of Canada initiated its investigation into the tragic event. The pilot and passengers, all believed to be from the Calgary area, had departed from Springbank Airport in the Piper PA32 at around 8:45 PM on Friday.
Communications with the aircraft were lost around 9:30 PM. The authorities were alerted about the missing plane at approximately 1 AM on Saturday, prompting a search and rescue operation by a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) squadron stationed in Winnipeg. After relentless efforts, the RCAF squadron, assisted by Alberta Parks Mountain Rescue, located the crash site around 7:30 AM on Mount McGillivray, in close proximity to Kananaskis Village.
