15-Year-Old Wounded by Jacksonville Police After Shots Fired into Crowd at Football Game

U.S — After conflicts broke out inside the stadium and the game was called off in the third quarter on Friday night, Jacksonville police shot a juvenile they said fired a gun into a throng leaving the stadium. Alan Parker, chief of investigations for the Sheriff’s Office, reported at the scene that the teen was brought to the hospital with a bullet graze to the head and a gunshot wound to the lower torso.
There was no word on his condition, and no additional game-related injuries had been reported as of Saturday afternoon. This is the latest in a string of shootings at high school football games in Jacksonville. Although the Sheriff’s Office has since confirmed that the child is 15 years old, the Times-Union will not publish his name due of his young age and the fact that no one else was wounded in the incident. He faces charges of both carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a handgun on school grounds.
A student reported hearing 20 gunshots and multiple fights, as reported by Times-Union news partner First Coast News. Parker claimed that police had been warned ahead of time to send more officers to the game because a huge brawl was expected. The game was called off in the third quarter after fights were reported, according to Duval County Public Schools Police Chief Greg Burton.

According to Parker, he disobeyed orders to put down the weapon. The police officers gave chase as he fled from the parking lot and into the nearby woods. They shot a few times. The suspect was shot twice (in the lower extremities and the head) but managed to make it through the woods and over a fence. After making it across the street, another cop stopped him in front of a store. The weapon was still in his jeans. According to Parker, the incident occurred around 9 o’clock that night on the outskirts of the First Coast campus, specifically near the intersection of Duval Station and Starratt roads.
